Our Story

We pride ourselves on offering quality food along with quality service. We serve the best customers around here in the wonderful city of Oxford, Mississippi. We offer a lunch menu Monday through Saturday that features our famous burgers, deli sandwiches, chicken, Mississippi Catfish, and much more! On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night we are open for dinner from 5-9. We offer our burger plate, chicken, catfish, shrimp, and of course our delicious ribeyes and filets. We also have a brown bag policy at night that allows customers to bring in their own wine or liquor to drink while dining with us. It costs $4 per person and we will supply the bottle opener, ice, or glasses that you may want.

The History

The original Phillips Grocery in Holly Springs, MS was built and operated in 1892 by Oliver Quiggins, a former Confederate soldier and prisoner of war of the Union Army. Phillips Grocery was operated as a saloon until prohibition when it became a grocery store in 1919. Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Phillips bought the store in 1948, developed a special and still secret recipe and began to grill the famous Phillips hamburgers.

Accolades

On April 24, 1989, USA Today spotlighted our burgers and named Phillips Grocery one of the top three hamburger joints in the United States! In the April 1995 issue of Gourmet Magazine, our burgers are described as “culinary gems” and as an “American Classic.”
We have been featured in Men’s Journal, the L.A. Times, Delta Airlines Sky Magazine, and in 2010 Phillips Grocery was named No. 1 restaurant in Oxford by Channel 5’s Andy Wise; No. 1 burger in Oxford by the Oxford Eagle; and among the top 5 burgers in the state by Mississippi Magazine.
